After surviving last winter’s polar vortex, it’s such a relief to finally make it to summer! Off come the cute sweaters, booties and the quick in-and-out pee breaks. Just because the weather has warmed up though, that doesn’t mean you should neglect your dog’s well-being in the summer months. Check out our tips to avoid heat related stress or illnesses to keep your pup safe and protected from the heat.
Never leave your pet in the car! Even when the outside temperature is only 70 degrees, the heat inside the car can reach up to 115 degrees!
Make sure the water bowl is always full – throw a few ice cubes in there – many dogs love to chew on them.
Dogs can get sunburned too! Provide a shady area for them if you are hanging out in your yard or the park.
Plan your dog route in the shade – you don’t want to burn your pooch’s paws on the hot sidewalks.
Check for ticks, fleas and heartworms – summer is high season for these pesky parasites.
